Like many other unique characteristics of white teas, the white tea plant is also unique.
The tea plant ‘Fu Ding Da Bai Hao’ (福鼎大白毫 – Fu Ding big white down) is the original and premium tea plant used to produce the premium white tea. The tea leaves are characterized by being strong, full and bold with needle shaped tips in buds and covered with the white down fur – where the name Silver Needle was from.
The most prestige Chinese white tea is the Fuding Silver Needle – white tea made using the bud leaves only of the tea plant Fu Ding Da Bai Hao cultivated in the Tai-Lao-Shan (太姥山) area of the Fuding region, with traditional white tea processing method.
